About these numbers

Index levels and ETF prices are published only when two independent market feeds agree (Yahoo Finance and CNBC, with Google Finance as a tie-breaker). US indices and ETFs update in real time during the New York session; the DAX, FTSE 100 and Nikkei 225 can be delayed by up to 15 minutes. Outside trading hours the last close and that session’s change are shown.

The S&P 500, Dow Jones, Nasdaq, FTSE 100 and Nikkei 225 are price indices: dividends are not included in their level. The DAX is a performance index with dividends reinvested. Bitcoin and Ethereum trade around the clock; their daily change is measured from the close at midnight UTC. The gold and silver ETFs (GLD, IAU, SLV) hold physical metal, so they track the metal price less a small annual fee; GDX holds shares of gold-mining companies, which tend to move more than gold in both directions.
