About the wti crude oil price
West Texas Intermediate (WTI) is the US crude oil benchmark, priced in US dollars per barrel at Cushing, Oklahoma. The live price is the front-month NYMEX WTI futures contract (delayed, cross-checked between two sources); the chart and history use the EIA's official daily spot price, which the EIA publishes weekly. In April 2020 the WTI front-month futures contract famously settled below zero as storage at Cushing filled; the spot series records that episode.
What moves the WTI price
US production and exports, Cushing inventories and pipeline capacity, refinery demand, OPEC+ policy and global demand. WTI and Brent move together over time but the spread widens when US logistics are constrained.
