About the bitcoin price

Bitcoin is a decentralised digital currency with a fixed maximum supply of 21 million coins. Its price is set by trading on many exchanges at once, which is why quotes differ slightly between platforms. The live price is published only when two independent feeds agree (TradingView's real-time exchange price, Yahoo Finance and CNBC's Coin Metrics reference rate). Crypto trades around the clock, so the daily change and the history use the close at midnight UTC.

Bitcoin and gold

Bitcoin is often called digital gold because its supply is capped, but it has been far more volatile: falls of more than 70% from a peak have happened several times. The gold vs Bitcoin comparison shows both rebased to 100 with returns, volatility and worst drawdowns over any period.
